About Page

I am a native son of the Metropolitan Detroit area.  I lived in a cookie cutter suburb but grew up in the homes of family in neighborhoods on Detroit’s Southwest side.  After high school I spent many summers in world class cities visiting family in Europe and I spent my school year working toward degrees in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Detroit Mercy (Detroit’s Jesuit university).  Then, like so many Detroiters from my generation, I left Detroit for Chicago.  In Chicago I obtained a law degree from Loyola University Chicago (Chicago’s Jesuit university).  Following law school I did what many Detroit expatriates do, I came back.  Despite my friends questioning of my sanity, I returned to the City I have always considered home because of the loyalty it deserves, the pride it invokes, and the opportunity it presents.

  1. Nice site. I can appreciate your enthusiasm. I too grew up in metro detroit and run a detroit centric blog. I also attended Loyola for law school, graduated in 2008, and promptly moved back here.

Good luck with your blog. It would be greatly appreciated if you added a link to my blog to your blogroll. Take a look at it at http://www.DetroitArmy.com. I’ll add a link to your site either way.

    Keep in touch.

  2. Hi my name is Max. I am a graduated architecture major living in Portland OR. I have been interested in the city of detroit for some time now and wanted to start a prject centered around it. I am planning on attending M of U for grad school next year. I am not entirely sure what that is going to be yet, but wanted to start some conversations with people about the city to get an understanding of what it may become in the future.

If you have the time would you be willing to answer some questions for me in the next week or so. Thanks for your time and if you have any questions for me feel free to ask.

  3. Max:

I would love to assist you in whatever ways possible. Feel free to send me any questions or provide your phone number and I can give you a ring at some point this weekend. The city of Detroit is my passion and I love talking about it. Let me know what the best arrangement is for you and we can try to make it work.

  4. I am also starting a blog about Detroit. I came across your site while doing some research a couple nights back. Just wanted to say that your post entitled “Part Of The Solution” was absolutely awesome.

  5. I am sending you a link to a youtube video which relates to one of your earlier posts about Mid-Town. The video is of a classic 1947 Standard Oil station at the corner of Peterboro and Woodward which will become a PharMor Pharmacy. The architects have done an excellent job of preserving the original structure. Enjoy!
